Ippudo Ramen Singapore review

Hey folks!

After living in Singapore for over a year you soon come to realize it is not that easy to get a decent meal at a good price unless you really look hard. Food is at a premium away from the hawker centers but sometimes it can be worth the hunt.

Ippudo is a Japanese ramen joint that has number of outlets on the island however Mandarin Gallery is where we chose this time. We ate on a Saturday night and were seated immediately by the friendly staff however other reviews seem to suggest it can get very busy and indeed the staff did seem used to a faster pace.

We were actually pretty darn hungry so immediately ordered an original pork bun and a serving of gyoza.
The pork bun ($3.5) and the gyoza ($8) were okay, nothing special but then we were here for the ramen and would advise others to skip any extras. Louise did order a lemon tea ($3) which was very good and I was told, well brewed.

The shiromaru ramen, gyoza and lemon tea
The shiromaru motoaji ramen itself was a different story to the extras, delicate and meaty from the pork with just the right amount of saltiness. The Hakata style noodles too also were perfect for me at hard and Louise’s at medium (you can choose your texture when ordering) whilst pickled ginger added zing, wood ear mushrooms, umami and cabbage, crunch. The rosu chashu (pork loin) was soft and tasty and just enough and we finished it off at the same time as the last spoonful of broth.

Overall we enjoyed Ippudo and are planning to try its “top ramen in Singapore” competitor Natsuttei soon to compare. The only advice we would offer is ignore the extras as the ramen itself is large enough and tasty enough to go anyway.

Rating: 8/10
